ABSTRACT: By describing how the palaeoanthropological studies and debates on evolutionism were carried out in specific circumstances of China during the past century, a new book by Sigrid Schmalzer, The People's Peking Man, demonstrated powerfully the complicated relationships among the knowledge production, power structures, social relationships, and cultural values.
