Dermatoglyph reveals that Muyag people in Sichuan may be the descendants of the Western Xia Kingdom

ABSTRACT: Relationship between Muyag (Minyag) people in Sichuan and Dangxiang people of the Western Xia Kingdom has been concerned by many scholars. However, only linguistic resemblances between the two populations have been reported, and no genetic study has been performed. Here, we verified three hypotheses of the origin of Muyag. 1) Muyag people are the descendants of Dangxiang people. 2) Muyag people are the descendants of original Dangxiang people in Sichuan. 3) They are admixed by both origins. Fingerprints and palm prints of 12 individuals from Muyag people were collected in this research. The dermatoglyphic data were compared between Muyag people and the 56 Chinese ethnic groups. Dendrogram cluster analysis showed that Muyag people was closest to Salar people in Qinghai, not close to the Tibetan people. Principal component analysis clustered Muyag with the Han people in Ningxia in the Northwest China (once of Western Xia), not with the Southwest population. Thus, we concluded that Muyag people might be the descendants of ancient Dangxiang people of the Western Xia Kingdom.

肤纹揭示四川木雅人可能是西夏国党项人后裔

摘要:四川木雅人与党项人的关系已经受到诸多学者的关注,但基本上是从语言学角度进行研究,并且二者的关系依然扑朔迷离。本研究对以前研究所提出的三方面推断(一认为四川木雅人就是西夏党项人后裔;二认为四川木雅人是原始党项人后裔;三认为兼有二者)进行肤纹学方面的验证。我们通过12份四川木雅人肤纹样本与中国56个少数民族的肤纹数据进行树状聚类分析和主成分分析。结果发现四川木雅人在聚类树上接近青海撒拉族,并不接近藏族人群;而在主成分分析上与宁夏汉族聚为一类群体,并且靠近西北地区(西夏范围)人群,而偏离西南地区人群。我们得出结论认为四川木雅人可能是西夏灭亡后党项遗民的后裔。
