 Hou Hill temple fair in Hebei and the influence of Houtu Goddess worship among the lower class

ABSTRACT: Traditional godliness is an important part of folk custom. After 1949, the official policies of China for traditional godliness can be classified into three periods: 1) Free development before the “Culture Revolution”, 2) concussion and destruction during the “Culture Revolution”, and 3) reconversion. The Hou Hill temple fair in Yi county of Hebei and the relevant Houtu Goddess worship is a best sample for Chinese traditional godliness study. Although most traditional godliness is regarded as blind faith by the upper class, it is just an inseparable part of the life of lower class, and is important for the stabilization of the society.

河北省后山庙会和后土信仰在草根社会中的影响

摘要：民间信仰是民间文化的重要构成部分。新中国成立后，对民间信仰的政策大致经过了三个阶段：解放初期的自由政策；以文革为顶峰的冲击和破坏政策；改革开放后信仰自由政策的恢复。本文以河北省易县后山传统庙会和后土信仰为个案，分析了民间传统信仰在草根社会中的影响和作用，认为虽然民间传统信仰在主流思想中被认为是封建迷信，但是对于草根阶层来说，传统信仰已经成为他们日常生活的一部分，具有极为重要的作用和意义。
