Abstract:
Ledu and Huangyuan are all located in Qinghai, in the Central Mandarin area. Compared to Luoyang dialect in Henan, both of the Ledu and Huangyuan dialects exhibit the phenomena of vowel rising and exceeding the limit of the vowels, especially the Huangyuan dialect. The degree of transformation from low to high is in the order from Luoyang to Ledu, and then Huangyuan. Here we compared the three vowel inventories, and described the evolutionary pathway of vowel rising.
